  • Family Advisory Council -
This group of highly motivated patients, families, and hospital staff meets regularly to design new family friendly areas, edit patient information guides, and assist in the development of policies and programs for the hospital. Some of our accomplishments to date include:
      • Child friendly waiting area in Emergency Department
      • Family Guidelines for Using Emergency Services - a guide written by families for families.
      • Creating a family and staff liaison position which will help families become familiar with the Critical Care Unit when a loved one has been admitted.
      • The Community Health Resource Center now open from 6am until 10pm. Located on the 2nd floor between the Greer Wing and the Ambulatory Care Unit, families can go here to research information, access web based medical resources and spend some quiet time as needed.

Details: Meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at WCMH Education Center, 5:15 - 7pm. Chair: Susan Roarabaugh
  • Medication Reconciliation -
Windham Hospital, in collaboration with the Willimantic Fire Department, Eastern CT VNA, Medical Pharmacy, The Connecticut Hospital Association, and families and patients, has developed a medication pocket card to hold essential medical information. The card is free and is available in hospital waiting areas and as a download from our website. We are encouraging everyone to use this card to list current medications and essential healthcare information such as allergies and emergency contact. This statewide effort promotes medication safety through self-advocacy. The medication pocket card is another tool for families and patients to utilize as they assume a more active role in their own health care. If you would like more information about the medication card or how you can get involved in patient safety please contact Mary C. Horan, 456-6766 or mhoran@wcmh.org.
  • Pastoral/Spiritual Care Advisory Council -
Clergy, laypersons and staff meet monthly to attend to the spiritual life and needs of our hospital. Clergy are encouraged to contact the hospital for parking and visiting privilege information. If you are a patient now or expect to be hospitalized in the future, please let us know if you would like a visit while you're here. We can arrange to have your clergy or someone from our spiritual support team come by to see you.
Details: Meets monthly, WCMH Education Center, 1st Tuesday, 1:30-2pm. Chair: Rev. Bruce Johnson. Contact Mary C. Horan, 456-6766 if you have questions or would like more information about our spiritual support team.
  • Maternity Advisory Council -
Playing a lullaby overhead to announce a new birth is just one of the creative ways families have contributed to enhancing services here at Windham Hospital. Our physicians have welcomed the ideas and suggestions and have found the Advisory Council to be a valuable model for developing and improving services. We are currently seeking new members. If you have had children at Windham in the last 5 years and are interested in getting involved please contact Mary C. Horan, 456-6766 or email at mhoran@wcmh.org.
Details: Meetings are held as needed at a convenient time for new moms and dads. All members of the family are welcome to attend!
