Connecticut Breast & Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program
The CT Breast & Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (CBCCEDP) is a state and federally program that provides free mammograms and pap tests for women without insurance or women with a high deductible insurance. Women must also qualify by the income guidelines of 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. Women over 40 can also qualify for our WISEWOMAN Program; this is a cardiovascular screening component. Women are assessed for cardiac risk factors as well as having blood work for cholesterol and glucose done. These women also qualify for free Lifestyle classes that focus on nutrition and exercise.
- A woman in need of a pap tests or mammogram must call 456-6896 or 456-6796 to enroll and qualify for the program.
- Once a woman qualifies for the program, she will be given an appointment to see the Nurse Practitioner. At this appointment she will have a Clinical Breast Exam and a pap test if needed. If, she is a WISEWOMAN she will be given a lab work request, questionnaire on nutrition and activity, and a Framingham Scale will be completed on these patients. At this time an appointment for a mammogram will be made.
- If the patient's screening tests are abnormal, follow-up will be determined. Abnormal pap tests are sent to Mansfield OB GYN, for possible colposcopy and or LEEP. Abnormal mammograms may require more diagnostic films, surgical consult or a biopsy. These procedures are covered by the grant.
- If a woman is diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer and they have no insurance, Windham Hospital is a presumptive eligibility site where women with cancer being diagnosed are put on a special Medicaid Program. This would cover any further treatment the woman may need, until she no longer needs treatment, or has a form of insurance.
