Altrusa Club of Northeastern CT Funds Windham Hospital’s “Transitions” Program

WILLIMANTIC, CT – August 12, 2008 – The Altrusa Club of Northeastern Connecticut Foundation, Inc. of Storrs has awarded a $3,600 grant to Windham Hospital to initiate a “Transitions” support group for women who have recently delivered babies (up to one year after birth). This is a first step in addressing the needs of women in the area, and a much needed resource according to Windham Hospital’s Maternity Advisory Council.

This 8-week class is designed to help new mothers form secure attachments to their infants and to understand how relationships with partners, family, and friends may change as they adjust to their new roles. Women will also learn to recognize early warning signs and symptoms of Post-Partum Depression (PPD).

Transitions will be led by Nancy McDowell, MSW, LCSW and Diane Thompson, MA. “We are excited and pleased,” says McDowell “to be offering this group experience to the new mothers of the area.”

Beginning September 9th, “Transitions” will meet from 6:30-8pm at Windham Hospital. There is no fee (thanks to the Altrusa funding) but pre-registration is required. The group will be limited to ten new mothers.
