Child Passenger Safety Workshops, Five Free Booster Seats to be Awarded
WILLIMANTIC, CT, February 20, 2008 - Windham County Safe Kids will be conducting two Child Passenger Safety events that center on the importance of properly installing car seats, car seat misuse, and the basics of child passenger safety. The first event is a workshop and demonstration, on Wednesday, February 27th from 5 – 7 pm at 10 Commerce Drive in Columbia. High back booster seats will be provided FREE to the first five individuals who register at the workshop, and each booster seat will be properly fitted according to the child’s size, height and weight at the next car seat clinic on March 1st, from 10 AM to 1 PM, at Champagne Chevrolet, Willimantic, CT, across from the East Brook Mall.
Nationwide statistics reveal an alarming statistic: 4 out of 5 young passengers are in danger in the family car. During previous seat checks in Windham County, nearly 85% of car seats were found to be incorrectly installed or used. SafeKids sponsors these workshops—staffed by certified car seat technicians—in an effort to reduce child passenger dangers, and asks everyone to “buckle up – SAFELY.”
