WINDHAM HOSPITAL POSTS EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT WAIT TIMES ONLINE, VIA TEXT OR THROUGH AN APPLE APP
Windham Hospital has launched a new initiative that makes it easier for patients to track the wait time they can expect in the Emergency Department (ED).
Now, patients who need emergency medical services and plan to visit the Jeffrey P. Ossen Emergency Center, can log on to the Windham Hospital public website at www.windhamhospital.org and view the ED wait time displayed in real time. The online display lets patients know the expected wait time from the time they enter the ED until they are seen by a physician or physician’s assistant.
Patients can also now text their zip code to 437411 and receive a text message (standard text rates apply) with the anticipated wait time. By late summer, patients will be able to receive the Windham ED wait times via their iPhone’s by downloading a free app from Apple’s App Store.
The online ED wait time display was developed in cooperation with a team from the Hartford HealthCare Information Technology division, as well as the Hospital of Central Connecticut (who, like Windham Hospital, is a Hartford HealthCare partner). Windham Hospital President and CEO, Dick Brvenik, says: “This is really very cutting edge technology that is now being made available to our community. Only a handful of hospitals in Connecticut have made these technological advances available to the public to learn wait times before arrival.” He concluded, “These advances are examples of how our patients are benefiting from Windham Hospital being a member of the Hartford HealthCare family.”
The Jeffrey P. Ossen Emergency Center at Windham Hospital is a spacious, state-of-the-art facility staffed with a team of physicians and nurses specifically trained in providing fast, expert emergency care. In fact, the Center has achieved an outstanding record of delivering timely care to its patients. ED wait times are now under 30 minutes 85% of the time. And, in a recent Press Ganey patient satisfaction survey, Windham Hospital’s ED scored better than 99% of its peers in the state (among those that participated in the survey). In recognition of this accomplishment, the hospital recently received the “Journey to High Performance” certificate from Press Ganey.
