Local Physician Accepts Prestigious Teaching Post at Hartford Hospital
Mansfield Ob/Gyn Practice Continues to Thrive Serving Area Women with a
“Centering Pregnancy” Program at Windham Hospital
MANSFIELD, CT, November 16, 2009– Dr. Philip Lahrmann has treated hundreds of area women and delivered their babies at Windham Hospital in his 25 years of practice with Mansfield Ob/Gyn. In January he becomes Assistant Clinical Professor at Hartford Hospital and the UConn School of Medicine. Dr. Lahrmann said accepting the post was bittersweet, “While I will miss the patients, our staff and my colleagues at Windham Hospital I am looking forward to this exciting and rewarding academic position,” he said.
“Dr. Lahrmann will be providing a great service to a future generation of medical students that we need in the field and we are pleased he will be doing so within one of our fellow institutions at Hartford Healthcare. We wish him well.” said Windham Hospital President & CEO Dick Brvenik.
Dr. Robert Gildersleeve, of Mansfield Ob/Gyn said, “We want to congratulate Phil on this move in his professional career. Our practice is known for its high-quality physicians and Dr. Lahrmann has made a great contribution to that reputation over the years. We employ the best in their fields and we are actively recruiting to add a new member to our great team.” The practice also includes all board certified physicians: Dr. Lesley Gumbs, Veronica Helgans, MD; Yvette Martas, MD; and Dr. James Watson. The two nurse practitioners and certified Nurse-Midwives (CNM), Maren Robertson and Stephanie Welsh oversee the Centering Pregnancy program at Windham Hospital.
“Our centering program is very popular because it provides pregnant women with so much good quality pre-natal information and a chance to be with a network of their peers during an uncertain time,” noted Stephanie Welsh, “the program is fun and chock full of helpful health information for Moms to be. We offer ten sessions covering nutrition, breast-feeding and a host of other topics with the final session after delivery on infant massage.”
Windham Hospital adopted the Centering Pregnancy model of care two years ago because it integrates health assessment, education and support that benefit women and their outcomes. “The dynamic atmosphere for learning and sharing is vital to women, Welsh said, “hearing other women share concerns which mirror theirs lets them know they are not alone and their experience is normal.”
The Centering Healthcare Institute reviews and approves pregnancy programs across the country. Windham Hospital just received their preliminary designation approval following a site visit by the national organization. The program will receive its official accreditation by the end of the year.
