Free Lecture at Windham Hospital Showcases T’ai ChiThe free monthly health lecture hosted by Integrative Health Services at Windham Hospital features Laddie Sacharko, who will demonstrate the many benefits of T’ai Chi. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, September 28, at 7 PM in the Hatch waiting room at Windham Hospital. During the evening, Laddie will discuss mind-body training for relief from the symptoms of many diseases, emphasizing today’s need for community-based T’ai Chi fall prevention programs. Widely known as an optimal approach to improving balance, posture, core strength, and flexibility, T’ai Chi has long been a subject of great fascination for Laddie, who says he is committed to nurturing collaboration between traditional medicine and complementary health practices in our region. Mr. Sacharko holds an MA from the University of Connecticut in Educational Psychology, and graduated from the US Army’s Command and General Staff Officers College in 1983. His study of T’ai Chi and Qigong began as an outlet for his own stress. Becoming enchanted with T’ai Chi’s potential for improvement in the quality of life, he traveled to China, Tibet, Canada and throughout the US, searching for “best practices.” Upon retiring from the military in 1996, he founded Starfarm Tai Chi & Qigong Search Center in Chaplin, eventually becoming a certified Usui Reiki Master Teacher and Qigong instructor. Laddie describes himself as “a perpetual student—always reading, attending workshops, seeking out new teachers, and searching for new ways to convey simple ideas.”
The 2011 lecture series will conclude with “Flower Essences” on October 26, and “Mind-Body Connections to Stress” on November 30.
