Three Windham Hospital Nurses Earn Prestigious Award for Excellence in Patient Care
Since 2001, the Nightingale Award for Excellence in Nursing has celebrated outstanding nurses and advanced nursing professionals throughout Connecticut. Originally developed by the Visiting Nurse Association of South Central CT, the program seeks to “encourage retention, inspire future nurses, focus public attention, and recognize the scope and possibilities of nursing practice at the local level.” Kathleen Hawkins, RN, Linda Kovalck, RN, and Anne Schmidt, RN, MSN, APRN of Windham Hospital were among the many Connecticut nurses honored by the 2010 Nightingale Awards on Thursday evening, May 6th.
“The Nightingale Awards ceremony is a wonderful event, where peers honor the achievements of their colleagues,” said Hospital President and CEO Dick Brvenik. “It has never been more vital to have your talent, compassion and dedication working to ensure each patient is treated with dignity and respect and with the highest quality of care. You have never been more appreciated than you are today,” concluded Brvenik. This year’s ceremony was held at the Marriott Downtown Hotel in Hartford.
Kathy has been a nurse for 34 years with a focus on Quality Assurance since 1991. Linda has been an RN for 17 years, excelling in many nursing areas including surgery, pediatrics, and the one-day surgery units. Anne is a champion in the pursuit of professional development, and a revered leader at the Hospital. Cary Trantalis, RN, MSN, VP of Patient Care at Windham Hospital commented, “These outstanding nurses truly exemplify excellence in patient care; they bring a real brilliance to the profession of nursing and distinction to our Hospital. All three are valued members of our nursing team.”
