SBM Charitable Foundation Commits to Women’s Health Initiative at Windham Hospital
WILLIMANTIC, CT, April 9, 2009– The Windham Hospital Foundation has received a $25,000 grant from the SBM Charitable Foundation to support the Hospital’s Prenatal Clinic for uninsured and underinsured women in Eastern Connecticut. The gift will assist women without healthcare resources to receive prenatal education and office visits, including the delivery of their babies at Windham Hospital.
“SBM Charitable Foundation has once again demonstrated its commitment to our region through this outstanding gift,” noted Mona Friedland, Executive Director of the Windham Hospital Foundation. “As a result of this funding, at-risk women will be eligible to receive quality healthcare services that will not only impact them but the health of their child.”
Last year the Prenatal Clinic provided nearly 1,000 office visits and comprehensive case management services that resulted in the delivery of 50 healthy babies. The program has operated at a loss in recent years, however, Windham Hospital has continued to offer these services as they are central to their mission. Funding from individuals and foundations helps to offset the annual operating budget.
Sheila B. Flanagan, Executive Director of the SBM Charitable Foundation noted, “The Board of Directors of the SBM Charitable Foundation is focused on providing grants that enhance the quality of life for residents in the Windham/Willimantic community and we are pleased to partner with Windham Hospital in serving the needs of uninsured and underinsured women in eastern Connecticut. “
The SBM Charitable Foundation, Inc. was established in 2000 by Connecticut Bancshares, Inc., then the parent company of the former Savings Bank of Manchester. The Foundation funds a wide range of community services and activities east of the River that enhance the quality of life for residents of our region.
The Windham Hospital Foundation, Inc. was formed in 2005 to generate resources for Windham Hospital to assist in meeting the health needs of our community. It is a separate 501 (c) 3 organization with its own Board of Trustees. More information about the Hospital and the Foundation can be found at www.windhamhospital.org. |
