Windham Hospital Receives Advancing Women Grant
from Soroptimist International
The Soroptimist International of Willimantic chapter awarded $2,000 to Windham Hospital for its “Love Your Heart” project at its annual award dinner at the University Club of CT on April 27th. This is the highest monetary award given by the club. The grant was given in honor of past president Marion Schultheiss who was passionate about improving the lives of women. Each year, funds are awarded to a local organization that is starting or continuing a project that benefits women. The goal is to improve the social/economic status of women to help improve their quality of life.
“Windham Hospital's Love Your Heart Program has provided local women with services to improve their health along with the education needed to live a healthy lifestyle and increase awareness about women's health issues. The success of this program has proven that there is a need in our community,” commented Lisa Rose, President of the Willimantic chapter.
The Love Your Heart Project will provide risk assessment, education, support, counseling, and evaluation for cardiovascular disease for at-risk women. Women who are low-income, uninsured or underinsured will be targeted for these services. This comprehensive approach toward women who may be high-risk will help to reduce the incidence of death due to cardiovascular disease and improve the quality of their lives.
