Position Title: Coding Supervisor

Department:Health Information Management
Position Description: Registered Health Information Technician, Registered record Health Administrator, Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), CCS_CPC. An RN or LPN may be considered if a certified coding specialist credential has been obtained along with previous supervisory experience. Experience: Desired (but not required) 5 years experience in acute care in-patient and out-patient coding along with knowledge of DRG, APR_DRG and APC methodology. Exposure to electronic medical record and 3M encoder preferred, but not required. AHIMA, RHIA, CCS preferred. Previous experience with supervisory responsibility. Certification or eligibility for certification as RHIT, CCS, CCS-P or CPC preferred. The Coding Supervisor is responsible for providing coordination of all internal and external coding monitoring and auditing, educating coding staff, physicians, training new coding staff and monitoring the DFNM and evaluating staff for overall effectiveness and efficiency. Accepts accountability for quality, timeliness, completeness and accuracy of IP, OP, and ED coding, abstracting, data entry for optimal reimbursements and statistical purposes. The Coding Supervisor is responsible for assuring compliance with all State and Federal regulations. The Coding Supervisor will serve as a resource to all departments that perform coding functions. The Coding Supervisor will be expected to remain current in all technological requirements and advancements necessary to carry out these duties. The Coding Supervisor will be responsible for formulating and updating policies and procedures, and may oversee activities of students from educational institutions (RHIA, RHIT programs.)
