The Anne L. Card Scholarship

In keeping with our mission to support educational programs, to promote the interests of Windham Hospital, and to honor long-time Hospital volunteer Anne L. Card, the scholarship assists:

  • Windham Hospital staff members who are entering or pursuing a degree in nursing, allied health, or other health care profession at an accredited college, university or technical school.
  • High School Students in furthering their education in the field of healthcare. Through the scholarship program, area students are encouraged to consider health care careers.

Windam Hospital Staff

The Anne L. Card scholarship assists staff members of Windham Hospital who are entering or pursuing a degree in nursing, allied health, or other health care profession at an accredited college, university or technical school. One scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $1,500 to a selected staff member of Windham Hospital. The scholarship is a one-time award, paid directly to the recipient’s institution of higher learning, to be applied toward tuition only.

In order to qualify for consideration, the staff member must meet the following criteria:

  • Entering or pursuing a degree or certification in nursing, allied health, or other health care profession;
  • Be employed by Hartford Healthcare and work at Windham Hospital; and
  • Able to use the Award during the 2024-2025 academic year.

In order to apply for consideration, the staff member must:

  • Complete and sign the scholarship application form;
  • Enclose a letter of recommendation from your supervisor;
  • Enclose a brief statement (150 words or less) about your personal and professional goals as well as your reason for applying for the scholarship; and
  • Enclose a verification of the Student Status form signed by the dean or designee of the educational institution you are attending or will attend.

Applications, letters of recommendations, transcript, etc. must be postmarked and/or received by April 26, 2024. The selection of the scholarship recipient will be made by the Windham Hospital Scholarship Committee.

Recipients will be contacted by phone by May 1, 2024. Payment will then be made directly to the school the staff member is attending for the following academic year (2024-2025). A photo of the recipient will be taken at the time of presentation.

High School Students

The Anne L. Card scholarship assists members of our community in furthering their education in the field of healthcare. Through the scholarship program, area students are encouraged to consider health care careers. The committee will award one scholarship in the amount of $1,500 to a selected secondary school senior in the Windham Hospital service area who is planning to enter a full-time course of study in a healthcare field, excluding Veterinary Medicine. The scholarship is a one-time award, paid directly to the recipient’s institution of higher learning, to be applied toward tuition only.

In order to qualify for consideration, the student must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a graduating senior of the Class of 2024 and a resident of the towns within our service area: Andover, Ashford, Brooklyn, Canterbury, Chaplin, Colchester, Columbia, Coventry, Eastford, Franklin, Hampton, Hebron, Lebanon, Mansfield, Scotland, Sprague, Tolland, Willington and Windham;
  • Plan to pursue a career in health care, (other than veterinarian), in a nursing school, college or other accredited institution; and
  • Have demonstrated outstanding scholastic and community service commitment.

In order to apply for consideration, the student must:

  • Complete a scholarship application form (which must be signed by a parent or guardian);
  • Enclose one letter of recommendation from a current teacher or counselor;
  • Enclose one letter of recommendation from a non-family member; and
  • Enclose your most recent secondary school transcript.
