Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. Based on the premise that everything in the universe is made up of energy, this technique helps to restore low or imbalanced energy in the body, activating the body’s own healing abilities. Reik is an ancient technique dating back thousands of years and rediscovered in Japan in the late 1800s.
Unlike massage, it is administered through a gentle touch or no touch at all. While the patient is seated or lying down fully clothed, the practitioner’s hands are placed along energy centers or pathways on the head, neck, shoulders and upper chest, abdomen, legs and feet. Treatments have been described as imparting a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around the recipient.
- Deep relaxation
- Reduction in anxiety, muscle tension and pain
(reduced need for medication relief)
- Accelerated wound healing
- Promotes wellness and a greater sense of well-being
- Reduces the negative side effects of chemotherapy, surgery
- and invasive procedures.
